Even cooler, I could spell words in which I didn’t know the meaning…

Accompanying these skills was a thirst for literature, puzzles, and science…

I had a knack for word search and solving Encyclopedia Brown mysteries way before finishing the chapter… 

At age 6, my mom had me tested and I was immediately placed in “Gateway”, a class for gifted and talented children at my elementary school. 

I’d go on to win several awards for creative writing and numerous first place prizes in science projects…

I was told by everyone that I was smart…

Then something happened that would change my life forever: 

Middle School.

Enter: bullies, girls, puberty, and Algebra… (YUCK!)

This strange new world was nothing like elementary and soon, I was humbled by my failing grades…

I felt as if I was doomed!

High school came and things would get worse. I was attracted to the “fun stuff”… 

I sat in the back of the classroom, my eyes as red as maraschino cherries, and music became my focus…

I joined the choir, advanced to varsity, and became an accomplished vocalist in college as well as an underground recording artist…

(By the way, I barely passed my high school classes, of course, English and choir my highest marks.)

The years would pass and after the military, I.T. school, and a career in Fine Dining, I would slowly begin to re-imagine my profession and what kind of work was the most meaningful to me.

I became determined to change my career, and change my life…

In 2017, I penned and published my first book titled The Six-Figure Server- Secrets of the Fine Dining Industry Elite. It took me 2 years to sit down and write it, but only 2 months to put the words on the page…

My creative flame wasn’t fully extinguished…

IT WAS INTENSIFYING!

Now, this was a time where all over YouTube I would see these 19 year olds making hundreds if not thousands of dollars a day doing some new-fangled black magic called “Shopify Drop-shipping”…

It bothered me that here I was struggling to pay my bills and these teenagers were living comfortably, in Bali, off of a laptop… 

I thought, “What the hell was I doing with my life?!”

And I felt that if these kids could do it, I could do it too…

As I started learning drop-shipping, I came across someone stating that if you wanted to have an edge over the drop-shipping competition, you should learn SEO, Facebook Ads, and Marketing through social media …

Very quickly, I found a specialization through the University of California-Davis, studied hard and became a certified SEO Specialist having learned from some of the best in the industry…

I buried my face in The Art of SEO by Eric Enge and then- something very unexpected happened…

I fell in love with SEO.

I loved the science of it and the technical processes that one can use to blow someone’s competition out of the water…

(LIKE A DIGITAL PIRATE! ARRR!!)

So, I scrapped the whole drop-shipping idea and formed a digital marketing company around my new skill…

I called the company S.M.R.T., an acronym for “Study Maintain Retain and Train”…

This would become the ethos that I would bore into my ideas, businesses, and inventions…

Business became sweet…

I took on several SEO projects increasing rankings for barber shops, as well as health insurance agencies…

In full science and puzzle mode, I began to enjoy this new form of work over the next year…

But then, very unexpectedly, tragedy struck…

In March 2021, I lost my best friend in the whole wide world, my father, Timothy Small.

I had only just met him when I was 27 years old… and now I was 34…

We were inseparable, and then, he was gone…

Depression set in, I began to spiral, I was once again…Lost.

My passion for my business took a hit.. I stopped taking on clients.. and eventually fell back into a routine of what came easy: the muscle memory of waiting tables…

I wandered around several restaurants, enjoying my guests but secretly suffering…

The despair of losing HIM would be masked by false hopes of winning big on a generative NFT project…

I began to bring a project into fruition, one that I was super-passionate about, but would learn that passion alone cannot fund projects…

I failed to execute properly and lost the momentum necessary to mint 8888 avatars to a wide enough audience, and my project slipped from my hands…

I was at a low. A very low.

I knew that my greatest fulfillment came from when I worked for myself and facing racial harassment, discrimination and an overall toxic work environment, I knew I had to pull myself out of this dark place….

It was during this time that I had been informed by several of my former clients that my SEO work had in fact caused their businesses to grow…

They were literally attracting customers organically online from the work that I had done for them!

I put my small business thinking cap back on my head, strapped up my entrepreneurial boots, and began to form a plan…

SEO was cool, but I felt that there was something else that I was missing… something that would fully envelop me in a world of endless creativity… 

And then, in the summer of 2022, it was like a bomb had exploded in my face…

I had found something special…

Something so apparent… so “ME”, that I was compelled to act on it immediately….

I had come into the knowledge of a skill involving research, experimentation, psychology, AND creative writing…

It was called Copy… also known as Copywriting…

Now, I had written blog articles for businesses, highly optimized posts and web page content, but this was something different…

Using the power of persuasive writing and empathy, building email campaigns, and helping people discover the right solutions to their needs…

This was EVERYTHING I ever wanted…

I came across a super-dope woman named Sarah Turner who said that “If you really want to be great at copywriting, you should learn a little bit of SEO“…

WTF?!

And then discovered the incredible Alex Cattoni who showed me how easy it is to get swept into an email sequence using empathy...

This world was one that I belonged in. Science, Psychology, Persuasion, Words With Meaning And Purpose…

I was finally home.

I studied Alex, and Sarah, and soon took a big leap of faith hopping into Alex’s high-level training program the Copy Posse Launch Pad…

After this, I had everything that needed to strike that match and light my creativity flame once again…

That burning passion necessary to go above and beyond for my clients with the same level of service that I would give to my guests coming to dine at my table…

That feeling of contentment knowing that my life was back on track, and that Dad was in heaven- he was proud and he was smiling…

Today, I am happy to say that my business is growing wonderfully, my mindset has been restored, and my work lifestyle involves a laptop.

(No Bali yet, but I believe it will happen eventually!)

I’m not perfect. Never was.

But I have REAL SKILLS that REALLY HELP PEOPLE… That’s called PURPOSE…

I now wake up every morning smiling because I LOVE what I do…
